Basics for new residents

New to the Otto Petersen House (OPH)? Welcome!

Note: On every floor (in the showcase in front of the elevator or in the kitchen) you should also find a notice board with all contacts mentioned below.

Your first point of contact after the caretaker is your floor speaker. He or she will help you set up your home here and explain how life works on your floor. We manage some things in the tower (including the network, the washroom and AG rooms) ourselves in the form of a registered, non-profit association. These things are described in this wiki.

If you want to use these things, you have to do two things, in the order you prefer:

1. Go to the network group's consultation hour to get internet.
2. Sign and hand in the registration form for membership in the association Otto-Petersen-Haus e.V.

Our new residents brochure (Datei:OPH-NEB .pdf) dates from 2013 and is therefore somewhat out of date. It is currently being updated (2019/2020). However, the wiki and the internal communication channels contain almost all current information that might interest you.

Staying up to date

The network group will subscribe you to two mailing lists:

1. turmfunk(at)oph.rwth-aachen.de: Internal public communication. Anyone can post. Please no spamming.
2. info(at)oph.rwth-aachen.de: Announcements of concern to all residents. Only caretaker (Hausmeister), house speakers and network group can post.

Getting in touch

Apart from the floor kitchens, there are messaging groups for your floor, the OPH tower, and for all four towers. Ask you floorspeaker to get invited.

Newcomer rally

In the first month of each semester there is a newcomer rally. The invitation is sent by mail and post.

Beyond OPH

Our three neighbor towers also have some limited services accessible to other tower residents. Have a look at TvK, OIH and WEH.

Each summer, the four towers' residents cooperate to organise two big events with thousands of attendees:

• the Türmefest, a big student party with live bands and DJs on our grounds,
• the Lousberglauf, the traditional 5'555 m fun run on the Lousberglauf.

Grundlegendes für Neueinzieher

Neu im Otto-Petersen-Haus (OPH)? Sei willkommen!

Anmerkung: Auf jeder Etage (im Schaukasten vor dem Aufzug oder in der Küche) solltest Du außerdem einen Aushang mit allen hier erwähnten Ansprechpartnern finden.

Dein erster Ansprechpartner nach dem Hausmeister ist Dein Etagensprecher. Sie oder er hilft Dir, Dich hier häuslich einzurichten und erklärt Dir, wie das Leben auf Deiner Etage funktioniert. Einige Dinge im Turm (unter anderem das Netzwerk, den Waschraum und AG-Räume), verwalten wir Studierende des OPH selbst in Form eines eingetragenen, gemeinnüztigen Vereins. Diese Dinge sind in diesem Wiki beschrieben.

Falls Du diese Dinge nutzen möchtest, musst Du zwei Dinge tun, in beliebiger Reihenfolge:

1. Gehe zur Sprechstunde der Netzwerkgruppe um Internet zu bekommen.
2. Fülle den Aufnahmeantrag zur Vereinsmitgliedschaft im Otto-Petersen-Haus e.V. aus und gebe ihn ab.

Unsere Neueinzieher-Broschüre (Datei:OPH-NEB .pdf) ist noch auf dem Stand von 2013 und daher etwas veraltet. Sie wird zurzeit (2019/2020) aktualisiert. Das Wiki und die internen Kommunikationswege enthalten jedoch fast alle aktuelle Informationen, die Dich interessieren könnten.

Auf dem Laufenden bleiben

Die Netzwerkgruppe meldet Dich bei folgenden Mailverteilern an:

1. turmfunk(at)oph.rwth-aachen.de: Interne öffentliche Kommunikation. Jeder kann posten. Bitte kein Spam.
2. info(at)oph.rwth-aachen.de: Ankündigungen für alle Bewohner. Nur der Hausmeister, die Haussprecher und die Netzwerkgruppe kann posten.

Anschluss finden

Neben den Etagenküchen gibt es Messenger-Gruppen für Deine Etage, das OPH, und für alle vier Türme. Frag Deinen Etagensprecher für eine Einladung.

Neueinzieher-Rallye

Im ersten Monat jedes Semesters findet eine Neueinzieher-Rallye statt. Die Einladung erfolgt per Mail und Post.

Über das OPH hinaus

Unsere drei Nachbartürme bieten ebenfalls einige Dienste begrenzt zugänglich für andere Türmebewohner. Schau mal auf TvK, OIH und WEH.

Jeden Sommer organisieren die Türmebewohner zusammen zwei große Events mit tausenden Besuchern:

• das Türmefest, eine große Studierenden-Partz mit Live Bands und DJs auf unserem Parkplatzgelände,
• den Lousberglauf, der traditionelle 5'555 Meter Fun Run auf dem Lousberglauf.
