Network Working Group

Hello, we are the Network Working Group (Netzwerk AG) from OPH and take care of the network infrastructure and internet connection for the residents. For support and questions we can be reached at ng@oph.rwth-aachen.de. Specific contact details can only be reached internally, from inside the students dormitory. here(german)

Terms and Conditions

In our Network you have to adhere to terms and conditions regarding the use of it. There are two codes of conduct:

• Netzwerkordnung der RWTH (abide to all the rules listed there)
• Netzwerkordnung des OPH (this is also where the usage fee is stated)

Furthermore we point to the guideline for responsible usage of networks.

I moved in, how can i get an internet access?

Easy! Visit a member of the network group. Where we live is listed on the internal Page. Please bring your rental agreement and your passport. You can call our hotline to find someone present in the dorm.

We know it's impossible to find a person who is only listed on the internal page, which you cannot reach if you have no access yet. To solve this, introduce yourself to your neighbours and ask them to print or write down our contact list.

I'm a subtenant/I have subleased my room - How does it work?

Please visit us (subtenant) or send your subtenant to a member of the network working group. He will assign a new IP and explain the rules. For different persons a different IP-address is needed, else the main tenant takes the risk!

The usage fee only needs to be paid once, the tenants arrange this between themself.

• What's the address of the OPH mailserver?
  • mail.oph.rwth-aachen.de

• Can you forward my mails to a different mail address, after i move out?
  • No problem, just visit a member of the network group. He can set up a forward.

• When do i have to pay the usage fee for the next term?
  • We inform you through mail. You need to fetch your OPH-Mails or let them forward to you. The payment deadline for the summerterm is the end of April and the end of October for the winterterm.

• Why can't i reach the newsserver?
  • Its defective. We will inform you if its fixed.

• I don't own a network cable?
  • We don't rent or sell cables anymore. But there are Computer stores near the OPH dormitory or near the university, where you can buy one.
